The hotel has an illustrious and prestigious pedigree and history beginning life as a haulage yard and transport cafĂ©. Impressive! The business was taken over the May family in 1978 initially as a Carvery Restaurant – a proud tradition we still maintain at lunch to this day.

The May family of Mum and 2 daughters built up the business by bowing to demand and building a purpose made Function Suite and then adding 18 bedrooms.

Richard Fletcher, originally born in Kidderminster, returned after a long absence from a spell running and owning a hotel business in the beautiful Forest of Dean at the beginning of 2001. His hotel experience dating back to the 1970s made him determined to create a really friendly and relaxed yet professional team rather eschewing the more formal style so often encountered.

Richard has always believed in continual reinvestment in the business and in the last few years this has included creating a new Restaurant bar, 2 Executive suites, a refurbishment of all bedrooms and bathrooms, installing Fibre Optic broadband and most recently a complete refurbishment of the Restaurant. The truth is he rather likes projects!
